This meat slicer is a game changer. It cuts the meat extremely even. You can adjust it for how thick you want the meat. It is also incredibly quiet. We got this one to replace our old hand-me down as the old one was horrendously loud. So it is amazing that this meat slicer is so quiet. It is also very easy to clean. I'm floored by it and would highly recommend it!
I do a lot of canning in the fall, most of my garden is actually grown to be pickled or preserved. I had been using a mandolin slicer to slice my cucumbers, beets, etc. However that was both labor intensive and a little risky; I've cut myself enough to know that you can never trust a mandolin slicer! That's where this guy comes in! With this unit, I should be able to slice my pickles and beets without risking my finger tips. It's a solid, sturdy unit and all the moving parts seem to work smoothly. I haven't used it much yet, but so far I'm fairly impressed with it. It comes fully assembled and I was able to quickly figure out how to operate it and disassemble it for cleaning before I even picked up the instructions. The blade itself is held on with a quick release mechanism that is easy to access and use, and the locking tab can be used as a small hand grip when moving it around. The blade is an assembly, the locking tab on the front and some gear parts on the back are an integral part of the blade, and the gears have a little grease on them, so washing the blade will have to be done carefully, not just to avoid cutting yourself, but to avoid washing the grease off of the gears. The thickness adjustment is done via a cam-lever, as you rotate it through about 90 degrees, the thickness of the cut smoothly increases or decreases. The lever doesn't lock, it stays in place due to friction, so time will tell how secure it remains, but so far it's rock solid. The feet are suction cups that should help keep the slicer in place during use. They claim the motor is "quiet" but that's a relative term. It is quiet compared to my meat grinder for sure, but this is still not the type of machine you'll be able to operate as you listen to an audio book or have a conversation, at least not at "inside voice" levels. However, I want my slicer to have power, and making power makes noise, so it's always a balance, and I think this strikes a good compromise. So far I'm quite happy with this slicer, but I'll update my review as I get more use out of it, should I encounter anything that warrants it.
This food slicer has quickly become one of my favorite kitchen appliances. If you enjoy slicing your own meats, cheeses, and vegetables at home, this is a fantastic investment.
The motor is steady which helps produce clean cuts. The adjustable thickness is great, letting you slice meat extremely thin. The suction feet give an extra sense of security, preventing the machine from sliding as you use it. The blade is easy to clean, but of course you need to be careful of the sharp edges.
One thing to note, for softer food like cheese, you need to push the food into the blade (using the clear plastic piece in the picture) to ensure it doesnt get wedged between the blade and the divider. With some practice, this isnt an issue.
Works great! Wish there was a little more metal in the construction, but smoothly/evenly cuts semi-frozen beef!
I like to purchase my bread from our local warehouse store. Since they dont sell it sliced, its difficult to cut uniform slices as narrow or as wide as Id like. We had an older bread slicer but the slicing blade had worn out and was tearing the bread to shreds. Unfortunately, additional slicing blades were not available for this old slicer. I found this OSTBA meat slicer which comes with 2 different disks, one is a serrated blade which works great for hard crusted bread and the other is a smoother blade for meats and cheeses. It works great and OSTBA offers additional blades for purchase so, hopefully, Ill have this slicer for many years. It is made of metal and plastic, appears very sturdy and has suction cups to stabilize it while cutting. I recommend this slicer which has many uses in the kitchen.
Just what i was looking for. Very pleased with it!
This food slicer seems sturdy--used only once on a small boneless ham. Easy to use. Will be used regularly for slicing ham and turkey breast for sandwich meat. This way is less than half the price of deli meats, and no extra additives.
Slices easy and has an adjustable lever for the thickness or thinness of slices. Wish all parts were stainless steel, but not. The most important parts are stainless steel.
This is great, so happy I ordered it. I'm using it to slice my no knead crusty bread and it works like a dream. This saves me from hand and wrist pain from manual slicing and the slices are so nice and even...I'm impressed!
Received unit without any instructions or extra blade. Also a drip pan is missing. Advertised photo shows 2blades and a catch tray.
Good, just wish it were smaller but it does a good job
Wow what a slicer I love it . Compared to my old one which served me like over 20 years this one is like from a chev to a bmw I hope I get hopefully 20 years out the better quality one very happy with this purchase .
Great Item
I had an ancient slicer that worked but it was too small and difficult to use.
This is great! I purchased the one with 2 blades and a little tray. So far I have sliced potatoes, eggplant, for moussaka. A ham, turkey, a super thinly cut tri-tip for sandwiches- yum!
I used the same blade without the rough edges as Im not exactly sure what Im supposed to use the other blade foryet.
Its pretty easy to clean as it comes apart fine. There are 2 places that require attention when cleaning , there is a tiny piece of plastic at the bottom of the blade that food gets stuck and the slider that the food sits on - I wish that came apart completely as it can fill with water. However, its easy to take off the metal rod it slides back and forth on. The blade is easy to get off and well you have to be careful with that anyway its a blade! (There is some lube on the backside of the blade but it doesnt get close to the meat so I cleaned around it)
Suction cups - The eggplant was awkward but the suction held fine.
I clean it leave it to drain/dry completely, and then stick it in a tied trash bag and store in back in the box in the garage. Perfect!
Nice slicer. Very easy to use. Does a great job, and even slices bread really think.
Quiet, smooth operation. I'm able to adjust thickness to very thin for lunchmeat, thicker for cheeses. All I wanted in a slicer.
I am quite Happy with this slicer. Wanted to get a slicer for a few months. Read reviews and saw videos on YouTube. This brand had all the things I was looking for. I have used it for meats and cheese and it works very good. Only advice I would give is don't expect cutting fast, take your time. You will enjoy this unit.
Worked like a charm. The toothed blade slices heavy crust Italian bread flawlessly with no crumbs. The ham Isliced came out great with 1/8th thick slices. highly reccomend this slicer. Iwould also but the metal infused gloves to use when slicing.
Good meat slicer , both for meat ham cheese and bread
Slicer best gift. You have from very thin to thick slices. Easy to handle. Cleans well. Quit motor. Love it
Trs efficace
I bought this slicer to cut my Sourdough Bread & it does a FABULOUS job! It makes it so easy to do! Its also easy to clean. The blade is dishwasher safe.
For 120$ Im quite impressed. I switched to the smooth blade. I havent tried the serrated blade. It cut semi hard cured meat consistent thickness, I had it set to 1mm and it cut quite well.
Getting paper thin slices was a bit more of a challenge but that can be user error. We tried moist cheese it worked well.
I tried it and said if I didnt like it I would return it. We are keeping this.
The cons
the blade is a bit of a challenge to put back on and get seated in the gears.
all the gears are plastic. For occasional use it would likely be ok its not something I would use daily.
The suction feet dont work that well. But it was easy enough to hold and cut.
Sometimes the meat gets jammed behind the blade. I had it happen a couple of times. A mild annoyance but it beats cutting with a knife.
Cleaning can be a bit of chore. I wiped it down and used food grade sanitizer on all contact surfaces.
works okay
