This dehydrator is great quality and very easy to use. The touch screen is responsive, and it comes with several useful presets including Beef, Yogurt, Mushroom, Nuts, Tomato, Herbs, Blueberry, Fish, Apple, and Chicken. It's fairly large but still fits on our counter under the kitchen cabinets. It includes 12 racks plus multiple silicone sheets for fruit leathers and smaller items, which is a big bonus.
Theres also a built?in light button so you can check on your food without opening the door or losing heat. The unit heats evenly, the fan runs quietly, and the clear door makes it simple to monitor progress. Instructions are included and straightforward, and the overall quality and build feels solid. Its a versatile dehydrator that works well for jerky, fruit, herbs, and larger batches of snacks. It's a great product and good value for the money.
Ive been wanting to replace my 25 year old plastic dehydrator for some time now. This one has turned out to be the perfect replacement.
It came all ready to plug in. It weights less than I thought it would and it is well made. The shelves and mats are in a separate little box and the instruction manual is easy to follow. The controls are fairly basic, with time, temperature, and start/pause touch buttons along with the presets. The metal trays are easy to clean, as are the silicone mesh mats. I would have loved more than one drip tray because it can be used for things like fruit leather and dehydrating wine infused herbal salts. Though, given that the trays are square and of average size, Im sure I can procure extra trays fairly easily. The trays slide onto the racks fairly easily but they are a bit loose so you have to be deliberate so as to not misalign them. The dehydrator itself is made out of sturdy materials and I am sure it will last for years.
I have been wanting a dehydrator just like this for some time and plan on using it regularly. The 12 shelf capacity makes it worth the money. When I did the initial run I set it outside the kitchen door in case it let off any fumes and I couldnt even hear it running. I wasnt sure how warm it would get so I set up a corner with ceramic tile but it turns out that wasnt necessary. I have several jars of ferments by it and they are not impacted by the slight warmth on the outside. Because of how I set it up in the kitchen I can hear it a little more.
For my first run I opted for beets to make beetroot powder, and a banana. The next project will be dried veggies for ramen. I look forward to doing a lot of dehydrating with this machine, the possibilities are endless.
It looks great and is nice and large. Glass front, touchscreen on top that's easy to use, and the rest of the body is all a nice brushed stainless steel.
The grates are all nice stainless steel, small enough holes to prevent small things from falling through and dishwasher safe. Also has a plastic drip tray and six plastic liners with even smaller holes.
For testing I did up cosmic apples covered in a bit of cinnamon, sugar, and nutmeg. The apple setting button sets up 9 hours and 165f. I didn't cut my apples super thin so I knew it would probably take longer. Totally normal "issue" for dehydrating things. Times are very rough guidelines. I added like 4 more hours before they were done. I only cooked on 6 trays and it dehydrated the apples very evenly without having to rotate things. They turned out fantastic.
I also put a thermometer probe inside to check the temps. At 165 my thermometer read at 162 and held very consistently. 850w is a good amount of heating power for a dehydrator and it did its job well.
Only thing I don't really care for is that the entire thing is only a single layer of thin stainless steel so the outside gets hot. I'd imagine this wastes a lot of electricity by having to run that 850w heating element a lot more than it would if it were double walled. Make for a nice room heater in the winter :-\
I really like this food dehydrator! The only drawback is when you first turn it on for the first time you do smell kind of a chemical smell so I recommend washing all the washable parts first and then letting it run for maybe 10 minutes before you actually use it to let anything burn off. Since the first use, I have not smelled that. I really like the touchscreen interface. It is very helpful. It comes with 12 metal screen trays that are nice and flat and dont have any weird circulation bumps in them or anything so if you want something to lie flat, it will. It also comes with a tray that is plastic with sides on itvand does not have any holes in it so if you wanted to put something like applesauce in there, it would work great. It also comes with several kind of plastic screen trays to put on top of the metal trays. I guess to make something a little more nonstick or that needs smaller holes than the metal trays. The temperatures run pretty true to the setting. When it is running, you can hear the fan, but it is not super loud. Overall, great product!
This OSTBA Food Dehydrator is a massive machine.
It's black and silver has a window and touch digital buttons for operation.
Comes with a 12 stainless steel trays to dehydrate your food on. You can make natural fruit roll ups or beef jerky ECT ECT. The sky is the limit. Dehydrate mushrooms to add to soups layer on I could go on and on about what you can do it with this machine.
This looks and seems very durable and I believe it will last a long while.
This has a very quiet run when using it. Very low noise. You won't really even pay it any attention due to It being as quiet as it is.
I think it's a great Value for the money and you won't be displeased if you're looking into getting one of these.
When it came it came in a massive box though so be prepared for a giant box coming to your door. It's much larger than I anticipated. Lol. It's not a bad thing though.
